ABOUT GBHO
BACKGROUND
The prime identity of any human race is linked with its linguistic, religious, cultural and art heritage.
Every individual born on earth inevitably bears unconditional high regards for his or her own mother tongue, literature, religion, art and culture. We are American citizens of the Bhutanese origin. We are a society of diverse native language, literature, religion and culture. We belong to the ancient Vedic Hindu Civilization. Under the aegis of American laws, we have been enjoying the freedom to exercise our religious practices such as prayers, pujas, and rituals involving birth and death among others. We understand that the right to religion comes under our fundamental rights. Individuals who do not inherit cultural and religious values from their ancestors find it difficult to define their very own existences and Identity.
The milieu of our history is intricately linked to the language we speak, religion we practice, and cultural values that we derive pride from. Our forefathers were so concerned that they had appealed to the Royal Government of Bhutan to safeguard the cultural and natural heritage of the Bhutanese Hindus. Instead, the Buddhist ruler used brutal force to evict Nepali speaking Bhutanese population from their homeland. The pain of having to languish homeless for over two-three decades in different UN-managed refugee camps of Nepal is still vivid in our memory. Those years were difficult living experiences but that could never deter us from practicing what we believed most in. The precarious living conditions during the time in Nepal, paradoxically, provided us with strength to make our religious and cultural values our lifeline. Our values were our strength and it precisely provided us with courage to keep hopes for a better future. We, therefore, believe that an individual’s cultural heritage is insuppressible even during times of great difficulties.
We believe that cultural learning of a child begins while that child is in the mother's womb. Values of a mother and her beliefs undoubtedly get transferred to the child, which eventually define the future course of the child’s life.
Ancient Vedic Hindu religion has its origin during the time of formation of life on the Earth. This is hardly a religion but more a progressive lifestyle.
Our existence is assured only if we work adequately on preserving our religion, values and culture. Appreciating the need to act to preserve and protect our cultural and religious heritages, the Bhutanese Vedic Hindu practitioners have embarked on a journey for the same. We have focused on embedding the Vedic Hindu values in our lifestyle, which we believe will consequently help preserve and protect our norms and values. The guidelines adopted during the first Bhutanese Hindu Conference have been proven very useful. Historic Shrimadbhagavata Saptaha Mahapurana was held for a week from 12/25/2013 and First Bhutanese Hindu Conference was the last day of the purana on 01/01/2014 in Charlotte, North Carolina under the chairperson of Mr.Kamal Dhimal.
The Bhutanese Hindu Conference was held during that time in which Bhutanese people living in different states in America participated. There the seed of Global Bhutanese Hindu Organization was sown in 2013 with a concept of protecting, preserving, promoting our Vedic Heritage to our coming generations.
